The Parade Ground in Fort Kochi is a large open ground that was used by the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the British for conducting military parades and drills. When India gained its independence from the British, the Union Jack was lowered and the Indian Flag was raised on this Parade Ground on August 15^th, 1947.
