Aspinwall

Aspinwall & Co. is one of the earliest commercial enterprises in the Malabar Coast of South India, established in the year 1867 by the legendary English trader and visionary, John H Aspinwall. It was basically a trading company that dealt with spices, timber, coconut oil, tea, coffee, rubber and coir. The building in the picture was built in 1890. In 1956, it became a public limited company, and the Travancore Royal Family acquired a small stake in this company and in 1971 the Royal Family acquired the company in totality. This historic property was later acquired by DLF Properties and who in turn turned into the premier location of Kochi-Muziris Biennale – one of the leading art events in the world.
